Activity 2: Feedback on Data Provider Onboarding
Description
In this activity, participants explored the process of becoming a data provider to the HKG and highlighted potential challenges. We presented a structured onboarding workflow consisting of five steps: (1) information exchange, (2) harvesting setup, (3) semantic alignment, (4) isolated data review, and (5) integrated data review.
Results

Participants first brainstormed and discussed prerequisites for sharing data as a data provider. The most prominent concerns related to data structure and content (e.g. "required metadata", "metadata formats"), highlighting the need for clearer technical guidance and understanding of the system. In addition, questions around governance and trust (e.g. "data control", "update mechanisms") were raised, emphasizing that the HKG must be perceived as a reliable extension of, not a replacement for, local data sources.
In a second step, participants identified key bottlenecks in the proposed onboarding process, particularly in semantic alignment and pipeline setup. How deeply the providers are to be involved in the semantic alignment process was discussed. A nuanced picture emerged where control and flexibility for the providers, in contributing to the process, was seen to be important.

Slides: Activity - Data Provider Onboarding
Summary
Overall, the activity provided structured feedback on how to make our onboarding more transparent, collaborative, and accessible. It highlighted both the need for clearer communication of requirements and the importance of giving data providers control and flexibility in how they contribute.
